ACTIVITIES

HIKING & ROCK CLIMBING
Everyone comes to see and hike the great parks  You can hoof it or explore by car. If you desire a guide, we can arrange for one. Of course, you’ll be staying closest to Zion Nat’l Park, but you won’t want to miss Bryce Canyon or the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Snow Canyon is a nearby, little known, beautiful state park not far from the city of St. George. We’ll be happy to send you on some of our favorite hikes both off and on the ranch where you’ll avoid the vacationing crowds. The major hikes in Zion Nat’l Park (Subway & Narrows) require permits and both include rappelling and hiking through water.

HORSEBACK RIDING

Although we have horses on the ranch, they are race horses or mares with foals and we do not offer riding here. There are several services that offer riding, including one right in Zion Nat’l Park. We do accept horse boarding for a nominal fee for those of you who wish to bring your four legged friends. Zion lists horse traffic trails on their website.

BOATING

Lake Powell offers day trips by boat, as well as wave-runner and houseboat rentals. This is a fun way to begin or end your southwestern trip. The demand for these rentals is high however, and reservations are required well in advance. If you are hauling a boat, there are two small, but lovely reservoirs (Quail Lake and Sand Hollow) where you can pleasure ride or ski --- only 20 minutes from the ranch.

FISHING

We have a small pond containing big mouth bass, trout, and bluegills, upon which we allow catch and release fishing. (Bring your own tackle). Or, you can jump from the desert to the mountain pines within a 35 minute drive from the ranch and head for the Kolob Reservoir. You can fish from the banks or bring your own small boat. A fishing permit is required for the reservoir, however.

GOLF

A big favorite for vacationers coming to southern Utah area! Washington County boasts 8 golf courses, so bring your clubs if you’re so inclined.

SWIMMING

We have a lovely, refreshingly cool pool at the main house which is open during the summer season and available to all our guests. Adjacent to the pool is a large picnic area with barbeque, a sitting room and bathroom. We ask our guests to finish their splashing activities by 10pm so we can sleep. We keep the hot tub open year-round so our guests can come in from a hike or skiing and relax those tired muscles.

BIKING

Mountain and street bike rentals are available just up the road in Springdale. Back country private tours are also a big hit around this area, so if you are really into jarring your body, let us know and we’ll connect you with one of the tour companies.

TENNIS

Our ranch court is great fun! It is constructed with the latest technology of astroturf & sand, which makes the play very similar to clay. The court is lighted for night games and we’ll be glad to loan you a racket and sell you some balls.

PERSONAL PAMPERING

Perhaps you’d like a day at one of the world’s top spas – The Green Valley Spa in St. George is listed as one of the top 10 in the world!  Their services are fantastic and they offer some unusual treatments about which our guests have raved.  We can help you access the type of treatment(s) you’d like and make your reservations for you.

DINING

Although you may just want to cook your own food in your rental cottage, there is also a wide array of restaurants in Springdale and St. George.  We will provide you with a list of recommended spots according to your personal tastes and budget.

SKIING

Few people link the southwest desert and skiing, but Brian Head Ski Resort is but an hour and forty-five minutes away from the ranch. This is a favored ski resort for people from California and Nevada. Ski, board, cross-country or tube all day long and then head back to our milder weather to curl up with a cup of hot chocolate in front of your own fireplace, or melt into our relaxing hot tub.

ENTERTAINMENT

Our region boasts two famous outdoor amphitheaters – one close by in Springdale (OC Tanner) and forty-five minutes away in Ivins, the Tuacahn amphitheater. Both offer fantastic concerts and plays during the summer months.

The world-renown Cedar City Shakespeare Festival now present plays year-round. See your favorites either indoors or out and eat in 18th century style at the Green Feast. The fabulous costumes and notable talent are worth the visit.

The ghost town of Grafton is located only 20 minutes from the ranch and has been used as a set in many films, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Zion Canyon Cinemax is a giant (7 story) screen film adventure. Offering two films at all times, we recommend to every guest that they see at least Treasure of the Gods. This film will take you to places deep inside the secret canyons of Zion that you only wish you had the time or stamina to see in person.

The city of St. George, 35 minutes from the ranch, boasts a variety of movie theaters, dining experiences, art galleries, Mormon historical tours, and outlet shopping and malls. There are many fine gift and collectible / antique shops dotting this entire area. The southern Utah artists are some of the finest in the world and their works are often on display and available for sale in local galleries. If you’re a rock-hound, baby, you’ve just entered heaven… ROCK SHOPS – we’ve got ‘em in spades.

If you’re up for some exploration, we can send you to areas where you’ll find petrified dinosaur tracks or Anasazi Indian petroglyphs. A local tour guide has a weekly listing of his educational tours around the St. George area and they are a treat.

Of course, if gambling and bright lights are your idea of a great time, you can hustle forty five minutes to Mesquite, Nevada, or two and one half hours to the famed Las Vegas, gamble to your heart’s content, and then escape the raucous crowds and head back here!
